Shaun:
Sorry if this sounds a dumb question, but what type of thread are the screws used ? UNF or different ?
Thanks
Good question Shaun :-*
I never really thought about it until you mentioned it, since I always use taps and dies for the smaller threads. I just grabbed a 8-32 tap and all it says is Greenfield 8-32 NC G/2 HS and then a serial number.
NC is the type of tap, G/2 is most likely the tolerance (as in UNF), but I am not 100% on that (though I should be) HS is he material the tap is made from, which in this case is High Speed Steel.
Whenever I single point threads on the lathe, I use the UNF 2A specs from the machinist handbook and have always had a good match up to tapped holes. I don't think you can go to wrong if you go with the UNF specs.
I will do a bit more research and see what I can come up with. In the mean time, maybe someone else will chime in with the info.

Recently I asked a friend who works in a stockist of nut and bolts, I gave him a selection of the standard screws out of the gun, to see if he could get me some new hex type ones instead of the standard slot ones, which he brought back and said he couldn't find a match, without costing too much. He says that he thinks they are BSP type. I live in the UK, and I haven't got a clue ???
They are not metric or a pipe thread BSP (British Straight Pipe)
They are most definitely a unified thread unless you see a "M" in front of it, like the 88 gram bottle thread listed in the chart.
In the US, we are all screwed up (pun intended) as we have lots of stuff that use both metric and standard (unified, english, imperial, been called everything over the years) threads. I like the unified designation. We were suppose to switch over to the metric system back in the late 60's/70's but this country is so in trenched in the unified thread pitch that we just never figured out how to pull it off completely ???
Some good and not so good reading........

Cheers Ped, I have seen Droids advert, but without sounding harsh there is no way I am paying £3 ish for a couple of screws. :-X
Just as an example, there is some guy on the Bay doing a nut, a grub screw and an allen key for a mod to do on a walther PPK bb gun, this does away with the big awful plastic wing nut that screws in the co2 bulb..... he charges £6.95 + postage for those, and I can supply them for less than £1 including the allen key :-* (That's just an example).
I will carry on my searching and see what comes up.

Thanks, I'll have to re-check that one. The 1/8" vs 1/4" sounds right and I will check the thread.
UTS is the standard, UNF is the form and tolerance (basically, as I understand it).

I'm well pleased that these are not metric fasteners. Makes things much easier. The hardware store has plenty of stainless screws (even the little forward breech one) too.

You have a real good hardware store. I went to two here in town and the smallest screw they had was the 4-40, no 4-48 screws. I wound up going to Industrial Bolt, they have screws down to 0.

Just a locally owned Hardware Hanks. We actually have two of them close by. They also have plenty of springs and o rings. But I hear you. We are turning into a people who can't do the simplest of repairs so the merchants who catered to those abilities are dissapearing.
